Oh, of course I don't believe in Google music/Spotify/iTunes proving an API for winamp.

Reverse engineering is possible here, but will result in ban/lawsuit after it gains some traction.

Spotify has a playback SDK[0]. It's meant for web use, but it could probably be used to create a custom native player. You'd just need to have a webview somewhere.

IIRC this is used by Clementine, a QT-based desktop player.

They used to have a C library called libspotify that they quietly stopped supporting and later killed off.

Apple Music also has a player SDK via MusicKit if I understand it correctly. Some people already build third party players and web interfaces.
