Even the name "bad news", depending on the situation, can come off as a bit of a deflection - if you're causing the bad news (e.g. firing someone), then it's not bad news, it's just you! Not to say that that it's your fault per se, but the wording is a bit weaselly, which often doesn't do much more than add to the frustration.
