I may have heard of map reduce, but I have no idea what EMR is; turns out its map reduce (not sure what the E is for).

For most AWS stuff, "E" stands for "Elastic".

My favourite AWS naming was when E became EC2, as in ECS.

I always thought it should have become E3CS. I recall there's some old lisp manual that followed this kind of naming scheme.

ECS is Elastic Container Service.

Which is good, otherwise ECS Fargate wouldn't have made a lot of sense.

Sure but what does that mean.

Variable (i.e. elastic) capacity. That is, scalable, adaptive, "cloud", whatever you want to call it.
