I'm a big fan of alternative client side languages (would love to see a ruby version of this project). The problem is wide spread adoption will take forever. You wouldn't be able to use another language in the browser until all vendors ship it and those browser versions become baseline.

What would be cool is if browser vendors implemented client side VMs with a standard bytecode. Then new languages could be developed and delivered over time.
