Ask HN: Is it time to drop the online username?
Hi all. I have been known online by my standard username for over 25 years, but as trust on the Internet is now such a huge thing, and people are wary of scams, malware, trolls, and general nastiness is it now time to ditch the username, and start using my real name everywhere as my logon id. I've never hidden my real name from my username (I'm really easy to Google), so it's feeling that in this day and age the alternate username has reached the end of it's useful life.
I notice a lot of HNers do this, and have their names as their IDs - what were the reasons behind this? Transparency for a peer based community, or just that you never had a an alternate username in the first place?
