Ask HN: Can the CRA actually get away with this?
>"The new terms will come into effect on June 25, 2018. If you are still registered on this date, that means you agree to the new terms, and no action is required. After this date, you will begin to receive emails for changes to this account, such as when address or direct deposit information is changed. You will also continue to receive emails when online mail is ready to view."
So apparently... I have already agreed that "whenever they send me an email, i agree to have read it immediately and any dates or timelines mentioned stem from the date sent"... which I find ridiculous... and probably not enforceable in court...
But now they're trying to tell me... that if I do not unregister from their online services before a certain date... that I automatically agree to whatever policy changes they decide to make?
How is this legal?
I am amazed that this is coming from the Canadian Revenue Agency... (The Canadian equivalent to the IRS)...
Shouldn't I at least have time to review the changes at my own leisure whenever I decide to login to their website (which is typically once per year around tax time) and tell them yay or nay if I choose to agree or not?
Also... when I signed up to their online portal originally... they forced me to agree to the notion that "if we get hacked, sucks to be you, we're not responsible" essentially...
