The Tesla Semi Is Dead

How do articles like these get published? Mostly FUD, no mention of 'opinion' at all.

At least the intentions are clear - from the author, at the bottom of the article: "Disclosure: I am/we are short TSLA."

Clickbait with no substantiating evidence. Flagged.

The author arrived at this conclusion "CEO Elon Musk essentially admitted the project had been put on hold." From this quote from Musk "I actually don't know how many reservations we have for the Semi. About 2,000? Okay. I mean, we haven't really tried to sell the Semi. It's not like there's like an ongoing sales effort, so sales – orders for Semi are like opportunistic, really companies approaching us. Yeah, it's not something we really think about much."

Unless I'm missing something, that's a huge stretch.

Further, the author seems to totally misinterpret the dialogue at that point. "Yet, for some reason, the Semi is “not something we really think about much.”" I think it was clear that Musk was referring to pre-orders, not the entire project.

It's possible Tesla got close to 2k orders [1], but that doesn't really mean much if they don't have anywhere near the capacity to produce them. They are struggling to produce a small sedan in the Model 3, so a semi is pretty much out of the question right now. With that in mind, I don't think it's dead, but it's probably years away still. That's more likely the reason behind Elon's statements than just "project over".
