It does get annoying as a US developer how much time gets spent complying with EU cookie laws and GDPR.

That said, this is a heavy handed approach that increases isolation. Too bad citizens can't opt out, or at least see a warning that a site is not GDPR compliant and then carry on with their day.

If you don’t comply with GDPR, screw you for playing fast and loose with my personal data.

If you're using a JavaScript snippet, it's possible that you're still storing visitors IP addresses in your server logs. Unless you mask or remove IP addresses from your logs, that's still no good for GDPR compliance.

Don't spend thousands on legal fees to make your site GDPR-compliant

This sort of language is similar to infomercials that sell unbelievably fantastic products you didn't know you needed.

It's unfortunate that people are trying to profit on the back of this kind of hyperbole.

Or how about suck it up and comply with the regulations because they're based on good principles that should be applied worldwide?

This sounds exactly like American foreign policy as applied to the Middle East.
