As the article says, it was more about individual personality conflicts, money/business issues, romantic feuds, power games...you know, the usual stuff which people fight with each other about.
The difference was the fights often incorporated elements of the political environment. For example, accusing others of being undercovers, or emphasizing minor points of political disagreement between factions. Those details are often the least interesting part of the story, though.
