You can buy a Garmin inReach Explorer Plus for $450, pay $25/month for a subscription, and have two way messaging via Iridium/GPS/GLONASS satellites, mapping, position sends every 10 minutes to an interactive map on the website, and an SOS button that sends the cavalry if the shit really hits the fan.
