TBH, I don't think it's a matter of being "more likeable".

This person simply wasn't the right fit for this team, and there's no way around that. His exact behaviour would have been very well received at some of the places I worked and, but poorly received in others.

I don't think that putting an effort in "not being oneself" is really the key here. The key here is finding a team that's the right fit.

Yep; being likeable doesn't automatically mean being easy or productive to work with and that title possibly indicates the author doesn't understand that aspect yet.

It's somewhat common for people who don't like each other to be able to still function as an effective team - all that is required is respect. What respect truly means is a little harder to describe in words - I believe it's best for each individual to find a way to work out what everyone else means when they say respect (paying lip service isn't enough).

I thought this was very well and succinctly put, thank you. Having made many similar mistake to those in the original article, it's obvious to me when looking back at those situations that the real issue was team fit. Individual acts get washed over but fundamentally you need to be compatible with the people you work with.
