Monad OS
What I want from each operating system (FreeBSD - LLVM/CLANG, KERNEL/most of BASE) (openBSD - openSSH, LibreSSL, PF, openNTPD, TMUX, HTTPD) (SmartOS - Zones, KVM, ZFS, Containers, pkgsrc)… Generally speaking I would like to cut out as much cruft as possible allowing the user to start with a minimal OS and build up from that point. This would mean only incorporating a single default for all the necessary components of the operating system where applicable. One kernel, shell, file system, package manager, firewall, compiler etc…
Most of this can be done with the added benefit of removing 99% of GNU’s crapware. I’m not a hardcore software engineer so forgive me if this comes across as blasphemous I’m a designer 1st and programmer 2nd.
I have personal experience with all of these operating systems especially freeBSD and while I can do most of this stuff on freeBSD it’s now quite the same as having the competing solution or close integration.
