A dangerous mechanism introduced to support a good policy is still a dangerous mechanism. Proponents of policies requiring expansions of power should be very careful about the consequences of giving that power to someone with different goals, because that will happen at some point.

More like bookstores refusing to sell any books on chemistry, out of fear that they will be held liable if some person uses one to make a bomb. Plenty of the things forbidden by these policy guidelines are entirely legal. Manufacturing firearms, manufacturing ammunition, and manufacturing magazines is legal in most states.

I think a more apt analogy is a centralised printing press refusing to print books they don't like. Maybe you could go to another country to read the book there, but that's not possible for most people.
