Ask HN: Why was my previous submission dead on arrival?

I don't know why, but this submission:

http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1659517

Was dead as soon as I submitted it. Have I been banned or something?

It opens with a long story about a couple of your friends who've been kicked off a TV show. Down the line you draw some generic internet-related conclusions but your readers probably didn't get that far before flagging it as off-topic.

I didn't write it but I thought it was interesting. Also, people read most of the article in the 500ms it took to submit? I don't think so.

This was the URI in question:

There's nothing obviously wrong with the content and the host isn't in the (outdated) list of banend sites ( http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=498910 ).

The link you give here leads nowhere, so it doesn't help anyone to answer your question. Perhaps edit your post to say what your submission was. Then maybe somebody will have an idea.

It does go somewhere if you turn on "show dead" in your profile.

Ah, thanks. Never knew that. (Still not sure I want to switch that feature on, but it's good to know.)

Goes here http://tweetagewasteland.com/2010/08/ive-seen-your-future-an... Other posts on this site have been linked from HN before, with lots of upvotes. Doesn't look too spammy to me.

I can't reply to you davepell, as your reply here is [dead], but I too would like to get to the bottom of this.

I have been making the point lately that the stories that are killed -- either by autokill or by editors -- should be updated with a hint about why the kill happened. I don't want to help spammers figure out how to spam HN more. But I am convinced that it's possible to give people who are making legitimate attempts to post an idea about what they did wrong.

The way things are, the leadership of HN is creating a chilling, authoritarian atmosphere. I fear for the future of HN enough to keep making this point.

Some URLs are banned.

This one isn't.
