1000$ a month on drinks, coffee and snacks?
Have fun having no social life and being bored out your nut.
Nothing brings people together more than 'fancy a pint?'.
Otherwise you have to go out your way to organize activities that are interesting enough to actually make people want to come. And usually hard to schedule in as people are working during the day, eating in the evening and nights everywhere's shut other than bars/clubs.
It's easier if you take part in some hobby / special interest group. In my experience, a shared interest can really bring people together and lay the groundwork for great social interaction that does not need to be related to said interest.
Do conversations under influence of alcohol really feel meaningful to you? (Honest question, not judging, if you like and it's safe why not.)
I don't think you need to stop drinking ALL alcohol to have benefits. You can still maintain an active social life without needing to knock back 6 pints every Friday.
