Ask HN: Energy Star for Software – Or – What Is the Cost of Running Slack

We have Energy Star for Hardware - will it make sense to have Energy Star for Software too?

Has the power consumption of Slack has already been estimated before?

I've got a Kill A Watt® and I am planning on doing an experiment to compare: 1. Running my computer for 1 hour watching videos on YouTube 2. Running my computer for 1 hour using Slack 3. Running my computer for 1 hour doing nothing

I will then compare the results and see what the consumption is per app/activity.
