"Jerk" means "a contemptible naive, fatous, foolish, or inconsequential person". Are you sure that this is what you mean?

Definition of jerk

1 a : an annoyingly stupid or foolish person

  was acting like a jerk

b : an unlikable person; especially : one who is cruel, rude, or small-minded

   a selfish jerk

I only ever hear people use jerk to mean rude, or hurtful

Not really. I meant Linus being harsh/impolite sometimes. I like Linus a lot, don't get me wrong :-)

How did this get down voted? I got the definition from dictionary.com http://www.dictionary.com/browse/jerk

You can't disagree with a dictionary. Or can you? Maybe thats what I'm missing.
