I had an iPhone 6 Plus (from 2014) that dramatically slowed down after an iOS update that was released around 2 years ago (some point after the iPhone 7 was out).

This is a phone that costs with sales taxes, over $1000. At one point, it was so slow that I felt like throwing it on the wall, and breaking it into a thousand small pieces. (There even was a lag between me typing on the on-screen keyboard and those characters appearing.) I replaced the battery (about a year ago), and the speed improved a bit, but not completely.

I had to get a new phone because it was (still was) simply just too slow. Honestly, there needs to be some sort of class-action lawsuit and compensation for iPhone owners who have literally been swindled by this.

You do realize that the update that "enabled" this feature was 10.2.1, which came out in January 2017? Any slowdown you saw beforehand was unrelated to this issue.

Did you completely erase and re-install via iTunes, perchance? This is sometimes necessary after an update (and a reset without iTunes is insufficient).

Unfortunate, but software is hard.

What new phone did you end up getting? I hope it wasn't another iPhone.

I got a used Nexus 6 (in excellent condition) from Glyde for $185 which worked decently well. It was faster, but not super-snappy; and the battery life wasn't great.

But I purchased the iPhone X with AppleCare+ about a month ago. It was a huge purchase. The phone was $1,149, AppleCare+ was $199, and NYC sales tax was close to $120. In total, I spent $1,468.

One million times this. Are developers supposed to plan for this in the future? For the non tech-savvy consumer, the solution is to get a new phone. Most likely another iPhone due to brand loyalty and familiarity with the OS. Apple is doing us dirty and it's working.

You just needed to replace the battery...

That info only came about recently. Until someone on reddit figured it out, we all just assumed it was OS bloat, or some other magic. That's why everyone's so upset.

I have an iPhone 6, and I don't mind the speed but the battery suddenly started to be drawn done a lot more than before (sometime last Nov/Dec IIRC). I don't use the phone for much, so it was quite noticeable when I would be down to 80% after one phone call.
