Amount of fuck-up in this whole issue is mind blowing. I am getting more surprised with every new I get

Intel has been called out by Linus Torvalds several days ago for the crappy fixes they delivered for GNU/Linux. I would be very surprised if Intel actually shipped proper fixes for Windows. It's a shame, really.

Those were not delivered fixes, that was work in progress that is still work in progress. And the dude who was "called out" works for Amazon.

FYI - The “dude” from Amazon worked for Intel for 8 years before joining Amazon UK just over a year ago.

The “dude” is also probably working under an insane amount of pressure and being made to feel like he is somehow responsible or at fault for the whole situation. Best not to make it personal from the peanut gallery.

I did not, and do not lay any blame, I only provided context to the prior comment.

> Best not to make it personal from the peanut gallery.

That's a very uncharitable interpretation of your parent comment, which was simply pointing out his connection and history with Intel.

Are you sure it is not you that has made the uncharitable interpretation?

I read the peanut gallery comment as an agreement that the guy knows what he’s talking about.

FWIW - I took it as a somewhat rude reply but hey it’s the internet so no big deal.

So the person supposedly single-handedly working on this fix doesn't even work for Intel? That strikes me as... Odd?

Where did you got single-handedly from? Of course multiple people cooperate on those patches. That is it was possible for Linus Torwalds to join their discussion, it would all be much less public if only one institution or person worked on it.

So what you are saying is that Intel didn't bother to support Linux even with a crappy fix, like they did for Microsoft? Good to hear the Chinese are well supported though.

That is not what I said and not what situation implied. In situation where you have like zero factual information you went out of your way to make up most damaging possibility you could have.

And then another developer kindly explained why he's wrong. It's fun to listen to Linus' rants, sure, but he's not always correct.

And then yet another developer showed there are way better fixes than what intel proposed [1]. So he was correct after all.

It's almost as if software development isn't an exact science and there are multiple approaches to any given problem.

And that Intel don't have a monopoly on smart software developers. Truly tragic.

But wait, there's more!

I doubt some the best/most popular players of the USA-tech-industry dream team will get any real punishment at their own soil. Any fines will give a sense of justice to the public but it will just be peanuts.

They aren't going to get fined. There's nothing they can be fined for.

These won't be the same peanuts from the peanut gallery right? I didn't get many to begin with and if we have to share...

I wonder how much all this cleanup will cost in hours, downstream, for all the installed users? Judging by all the grief on this thread it's substantial.
