Ask HN: What Happens When HN Dies?

HN is unlike any other online community that I have been a part of. I've always appreciated HN but recently I have realized that if HN were to shut down, the consequences would not just be unsatisfactory -- they would be unacceptable for me. This website connects me to so many things and people that I would otherwise have trouble connecting with. I draw tremendous value from this website. With this in mind, I thought it would be worthwhile to open a query about other websites, subreddits and communities that offer similar value. Both to enjoy now and in case anything were to happen to HN. Here are my own contributions.
