This seems really dumb to me. There are still plenty of people who use cash (old and young) and ATMs installed by super markets and banks cost almost nothing to run and only generate value for the installer by increasing the chance people will spend money in their store. If they had said '50-100 years' I would say it's sensible, 'a decade' is click-bait. Also why are we linking Daily Mail articles on hacker news?
Oh please keep the ATMs open! Now we know how expensive and onerous they are to operate, we'll pay for the privilege, or perhaps a government subsidy is appropriate?
Bah! Sorry, but the article is from the right-wing and extremely finance-friendly Daily Mail, and appears to be propaganda to me.
Note this article is from The Daily Mail, I would take it with a pinch of salt.
This is great. I can't wait to use Venmo and PayPal for everything.
