AWS Lambda or AWS Fargate? for a back-up login system

The most crucial part of my app is the auth server. It's mostly all offline, but they do have to log in to ensure they're paid up. I have an ec2-server for the main part, but for a backup, what would you use? Lambda would probably be cheaper right, since it would only get used ( per request ), if my main server is down. Right?
