Ask HN: Is anyone else waking up to the lie of “recycling”

The numbers don't stack up. There is no possible way that the tidal wave of garbage being manufactured by the "packaging industry" could possibly ever be "recycled" into some other useful thing.

It's a lie. Who else is waking up to this?

Interesting. What numbers are you looking at, that give you the impression that they don't stack up? I ask to understand whether you are talking about recycling being a complete failure, or it being hyped up to be more than it is.

You're absolutely right, the plastics and "garbage" being manufactured by the packaging industry is not all being recycled into other useful things. Who ever said it was or would. Only a percentage of recyclable plastics even end up in the recycling bin.

So, does that make recycling a lie? Is there another alternative?

Please don't stop recycling, but how about focusing on buying products with less packaging, make sure you recycle what you can.

Find a better way. Calling recycling a "lie" I don't think helps anything.
