It collects redacted usage data for dotnet development commands - e.g. dotnet restore for package management - not run a backdoor on your production servers like the title implies. If you scroll down the thread you'll see that it doesn't even collect arguments you pass to the commands.

If you think that npm or any other tool you use doesn't do the same you are delusional.
