I learned vim by trying to learn Ruby/Rails(my first experience with programming). It got tedious to open files by looking them up in the Mac Os Finder. Then one day, someone showed me how to tell an application to open a file via the command line. I'm a noob. Vim found its way into my workflow, and I haven't looked back.
