Ask HN: What tools do you use to search for Meetups?

I find the search capabilities on Meetup and Eventbrite to be woefully inadequate. Is anyone aware of or developing good third party options for searching either or both sites for events?

If you are looking for tech events you can use https://techevents.co/ aggregator. Right now it collects events from Meetup, Eventbrite, Lanyrd, Facebook, and shows in one place by providing easy search and ordering by attendees count to be able to see popular events.

Full disclosure: I'm the creator of TechEvents.co

Its so surprising to me how little is going on in the Las Vegas tech scene. I expected a lot more, particularly after Tony Hsieh's big push to create a robust tech environment at the downtown container park a few years back.

Compare how many events and how many people expressing interest in said events in Vegas to Utah and the contrast is pretty stark.

This is a good start.

What other fields do you collect / plan to make searchable?

FYI: I did a search for Bootstrapper Breakfasts and it didn't find any so I am not sure how much of the other sites you are scraping.

Happy to chat if you plan to expand search capabilities.

:( still hardly anything near me

In which city are you?

Columbia, SC. It has to be about the smallest capital city I've ever seen. Most of the events here I already attend or are intended for middle / highschool students.

This looks great, thank you!

I am not actively working on or associated with any efforts to build a search app for Meetups but would be happy to pay to use a good one. Contact info in profile if you are looking for beta users / early adopters.
