Amazon S3 consistently displaying 'internal error' fetching pictures

Aws status says all systems OK, but fetching photos yields:

<Error> <Code>InternalError</Code> <Message> We encountered an internal error. Please try again. </Message> <RequestId>xxxxxx</RequestId> <HostId> xxxxxxxx </HostId> </Error>

Seems to happen on about 10% of the time.

11:58 AM PDT We are investigating increased error rates for Amazon S3 requests in the US-EAST-1 Region.

I'm getting issues as well. Here's to hoping this issue is just a hiccup and not like the last outage.. otherwise, it may be time to seriously consider alternatives. Anyone know of a good solution for a self-hosted s3-esque service?

This is the only one I've used, it's compatible with S3 API, but has limitations of its own:

Seeing lots of S3 errors as well

"An error occurred (503) when calling the HeadObject operation (reached max retries: 4): Service Unavailable"

"An error occurred (SlowDown) when calling the PutObject operation (reached max retries: 4): Please reduce your request rate."

Just images? I wonder if they are doing some kind of proprietary lossless compression on the backend.
