Ask HN: Design patterns during an interview should I really memorize them?

I have just finished an interview ( big established company ) that didn't go well. Specifically I was asked questions about design patterns that I couldn't answer. I have read the "head first" design patterns book from start to finish something like 7-8 years ago but I wasn't able to recall the details. Is this really frequent during interviews? Should I really refresh my design pattern notions for the next interview?
