Ask HN: Is offline marketing effective?

So I have tried some online ppc campaigns for my startup (adsreloaded.com .... and yes it is ridiculously ironic haha) with ok results but not amazing.

Is offline marketing effective? And if so what are your favorite techniques? Flyers, car magnets, billboards, Google TV ads.... etc?
