Why can't you learn to sail a small boat properly after learning to sail a big boat? I don't see how the example works in the first place.

what the grandfather is trying to say by my own understand is learning to sail small boat when big boat sinks small boat sailing skill is the only thing that will save your hide.the old man is wise
