Scenario: say I have multiple computers. I have a family's computers, plus parents and in-laws. The amount to backup on everyone else's computers is small (mine is ~1.5TB, more later). Before I covered it for free, knowing that for my peace of mind it was worth it. Now I'd be looking at $1200/yr vs the $150/yr before.
Aside: Regarding deduplication, I'm frustrated none of these backup systems will deduplicate across computers. My work desktop & work laptop contain many of the same files. Will any of them pick it up? No - because each computer encrypts with its own key. That's great, but for the two computers I own I'd like to set them to use the same key (this is with Arq BTW)
> I'm amazed that people here (who probably take in pretty decent salaries) cannot afford to pay $10 for a backup service that gives you all that.
A few points:
* I'm not in SV and neither are other readers. Wages in Europe are a lot smaller (though v good in the tech sector) * I can afford it, but I'll have to spend $1000 less on something else
