I can't open or rename file (name is too long). How to fix?

It is probably better to post this in a specific q&a site like https://superuser.com/

Try adding more details, like which operative system. [I guess Windows.]

Have you tried https://www.google.com/search?q=The+file+name+is+too+long [Most solutions recommend renaming the folder that contains the file. I didn't try any of them. Read them carefully.]

Assuming you're using windows (i don't remember *nix having this problem):

- open cmd (Win+R, type cmd, press enter)

- navigate to the folder containing the file: cd c:\Movies

- type move filename.mp4 c:\newfilename.mp4

now the filename is short

It happened to me a year ago , I suggest you use Long Path Tool, it works great in this errors.

use command line
