Please keep reddit's political craziness out of HN. It's why I left reddit.
That subreddit is hard to follow if you're not up on all the lingo. But it seems pretty normal to me for staffers to reach out to constituents when building legislation. I'd much rather see them talk to regular citizens as in this case than copy/pasting from lobbyists.
The Subreddit is incredibly toxic in nature and immediately bans anyone who is even remotely not participating in the circle jerk. I am talking even the tiniest hint of criticism.
It's hardly a good source for anything.
This is true of nearly every news or politics-based subreddit. Almost no one is interested in an intellectually honest discussion on policy, and dissenting opinions are heavily downvoted. It's extremely frustrating.

I occasionally end up in there searching for what people are saying about stuff. Recently on the topic of John McCain. That place is really terrible.
