Ask HN: How much should I charge for direct ads?

I have a website with 12k subscribers/users and I'm looking to experiment with direct ad sales. I have no idea where to start. What would be a reasonable monthly rate for a sponsor to jump on board? Where to I find these potential sponsors/advertisers?
