Ask HN: Google Analytics API is so difficult?

I was trying to setup an api key to access the Google Analytics API for my site so that I could query it from a command line script.

I got it to work, but it was one of the most difficult setups I have ever encountered.

Why does Google make it so hard to setup when other companies make it a piece of cake to setup API access?
