Ask HN: Can Google's CBA and Funding Choices Actually Work?
I was doing some back of the envelope calculations and I'm starting to feel google's pay-for-content model isn't actually going to work well.
1. Take a moderately successful article which attracts, say, 10k visitors.
2. Once CBA/Funding Choices goes mainstream, roughly 50% (Chrome's marketshare) will no longer view ads on that page.
3. Say 50% of the ad-blockers agree to pay 1p to view this article.
This means the article writer got $25 but lost half their eyeballs. Is earning $25 for serving 10k visitors to your website worth it? Love to hear your thoughts on this.
