We've been hearing about how Trump is playing n-dimensional chess since before the election, but I think it has to be crystal clear by now that he's just a confused old racist with the attention span of a wolverine on speed who is going to do the absolute stupidest thing at every possible opportunity. Yes, he did this to fire up the most rabid corner of his base, but he did so without having any real understanding of the consequences, probably at the behest of Bannon and the Kochs.
