Article is an amazingly good example of how to sell software. Even open source projects need to sell themselves, and these guys have it nailed.

It's disconcerting that they call their simple watchdog "extremely lightweight" when it's 150-200K. By comparison, the original Macintosh had 128K of RAM total.

I have nothing but respect for the Phusion engineers, and I eagerly await Passenger 3, but I'm curious: Why does it take over 100,000 bytes of code to 1) watch a process and 2) restart that process if it dies?

As meaningless as rss/vsize is on Linux, the "supervise" process from DJB's daemontools weighs in at ~ 340k/1628k on a 32-bit system.

DJB is not known for producing bloat :)

I think you'd be hard pressed to go below that number.
