Ask HN: Which types of jobs have been created in recent years?
Since you're on HN, you've probably run across the automation debate. To quickly summarize it: One side argues that increasing computing power, AI and robotics advancements will make human work obsolete because all jobs are automated away, thus causing dramatic changes in our society. The other side counters that automation has been going on for centuries, and whenever something is automated away, new jobs emerge out of these changes. A classic example is horse-drawn carriages being replaced by cars. There were lots of jobs lost around caring for horses and building carriages, but new jobs were created in car manufacturing, road construction and maintenance, gas stations, motels, and so forth.
Here's the thing: A lot of jobs are being made obsolete as we speak. But which types of jobs have been created in recent years (let's say, maybe the last 20 years)? That's an honest question. I could list some, but I'll try not to skew the discussion from the start hoping to be surprised by what you can come up with.
