That guy needs to finish his itasks for 2017 first.

- Tesla Model 3 production line (First deliveries late 2017. He said he was going to live at the factory to get the cars out the door.)

- Brownsville TX launch facility (first launch scheduled for 2018, not much construction started yet)

- Manned Dragon spacecraft (as of 2015, first crewed launch scheduled for late 2017)

- Falcon Heavy (as of Q3 2016, supposed to launch Q1 2017. Now Q3 2017. Maybe.)

Musk never delivers on time. I think he sets unrealistic deadlines deliberately to scare off competitors and motivate his staff. Yet he still does things so radical that they spawn or renew entire industries, so does it really matter whether things are delayed by a year or two?

exactly. he accelerated development of affordable electric cars by a decade. he basically rebuilt the space launch market. he's got the energy storage and production market in his sights. also don't forget he cocreated the internet payments market.

You should read Edison's biography. You'd understand Musk much more.

Now that you've made this comparison, I can never unsee it. They're extremely similar! This makes me wonder whose going to be Musk's Tesla. I.e., what's the first amazing idea he's going to throw away (out of mainly hubris) that actually solves his problems.

Which one?

Edison didn't try to run the businesses he spun off. He licensed patents and collected royalties, and had equity in the manufacturing businesses. But he didn't try to run General Electric.
