What would a school system focused on how to learn look like?

I imagine this school system would:

* Guide students through identifying their preferred learning style. Nosce te ipsum to begin with.

* Guide them through identifying their current, individual interests. Use innate (especially while young) human curiosity to fuel the passion for learning a subject. Gotta be driven!

* Instruct on how to obtain knowledge in a certain domain. How to grasp new concepts, identify linked domains, learn required vocab words, speak to experts, read and write about the domain, use of digital/physical resources, how to be a good volunteer, how to participate in verbal discussions, active listening, what comprises a project, time management, collaboration, facilitation, culminating in completing projects of varying difficulty in the domain, teach others along the way, etc.

* Surround the students with resources/access/tools and experts in a lively creation space (think Maker/HackerSpaces).

* Then turn the students loose. Get the heck out of there way until they come to the "resource desk" in search of access/introductions/further guidance.

Some thoughts on the topic, quite random and unformatted, but thanks for posing this question!

- Kids would hopefully be in a system where the question "why do we need to know this" arises less, as an effect of the system
