240 Mbps. So AFAIK 240 megabits per second. Is my original notation ambiguous?

A capital B indicates "byte", and a lower-case b indicates "bit". 240 MBps is eight times faster than 240 Mbps.

When it comes to speeds in bits per second, M almost always means 1000000, and not 1048576.

Networking speeds are pretty much universally represented in bits (per second) -- "little b". Storage, on the other hand, uses bytes -- "big B".

So, yeah...

> I have 240MB/s at home ...

You're saying you have a 240 MBytes x 8 -- or 1920 Mbit/s -- connection.

Possibly OP was incorrectly confusing Mbps and MBps but in Japan Sony offers 2Gb/s for home connections.

I had their 1Gb/s plan for ~6000JPY/Month when I was living in Kyoto. Was great

How is a 2 Gb/s home connection presented? 10GbE?

Yes

Looks like they now offer 10 Gbps. And yeah, it shows 10 GbE ethernet card support https://www.nuro.jp/10g/

edit: here's a list of their supported end-user equipment, they all seem to only have 1 Gbps RJ-45 ports https://www.nuro.jp/device.html

edit2: for the new 10 Gbps service they have self-branded routers with one 10GBASE-T port (and 3 gigabit ports), dunno what hardware it's based on https://www.nuro.jp/news/150601/10g_150601.pdf

It's more likely he meant 240Mbit/s

Yes sorry I did
