Well at least it was stated early in the article that "The results don't prove there's a connection". Making causal assertions based on observational studies that are so wide open and uncontrolled might soothe our sensitivies but usually they are just appealing to whatever bias we already have.

Surly it's not about the law (kids can't marry) but the intent, which should bleed across to other states.

Well my anecdote for this is that my gay friends in their teens have been suicidal because they did not feel as if they belonged. They have been alienated from their family and friends. So making them feel more like they belong should definitely have some added benefits like reduced suicide rate amongst those affected.
