Haskell: “the C program, which often crashed and killed the patients.”

This message was an April Fool's joke:

This reply is the buried gold ;)

I strongly believe that there are few programs that could plausibly not kill people. It might occur due to indirection (e.g. an OS running a critical system panicing) or directly (the linked example). This is why I believe in as many safeguards as possible: static types, contracts and static analysis.

Although I still haven't found a real project to learn Rust with, it comes across as the best thing to have ever happened to software development. Functional is easily within that realm, too.

Though April Fools joke. This reminds me of sqlite's extensive test coverage. I assume any code running in medical/critical devices are tested extensively.

Tested to death.

Arguments about which programming language is best aren't a matter of life and death.

They're WAY more important than that.

The Haskell program was lazy, so the kill thunk was never evaluated.
