Why focus on just Christianity? Islam started as an 'obscure cult', like most religions.
I guess I'm a little confused about what you think a good answer to your question would address, beyond the obvious fact that the author didn't decide to write about Islam.
My point is that the current trend is to shit on Christianity and praise Islam.
