Ask HN: Anyone have experience selling hardware prototypes?

Im looking to bootstrap a hardware startup the lean way and start with a high pricing low volume strategy. Building a limited amount of prototypes and selling those to customers. To test product market fit and fund the business. Does anyone here have experience selling their demos / prototypes? What should I keep in mind?
