The reason Apple is exiting displays and WiFi routers is that those have become commodity markets where Apple can't add much value anymore. It's not that they can't stay in those markets; they just don't want to.

Ever hear this ad? "Comcast gives you the fastest in-home WiFi." Think about that: a cable ISP is advertising in-home WiFi speeds.

That is why Apple is not bothering to make WiFi base stations anymore. WiFi is now something that comes with your home broadband connection. Plugging a 3rd party wireless router (even from Apple) into a Comcast modem/router only makes things more complicated and fragile for consumers.
