I hope they still make an airplay device that can take over for my Airport express.

For Airplay, I replaced my Airport Express w/ a RaspberryPi running Shairport a few years ago. Works much better, perhaps because the Pi is on wired ethernet, for one less streaming signal over the wireless (?).

You can connect an express on ethernet too, and it works pretty good for me. And I don't have to maintain a rasberry pi.

The Apple AirPort extreme is of little interest to me, it's the AirPort Express I care about. I haven't found any real good replacement for those.

I have two and they've been running for 8 or 10 year, with out failure.
