how would they even do that? do they some how receive a receipt from the merchant? i use amex myself and have never seen any receipts. i'll do some more research...
They don't get a "receipt" in the traditional sense. They rather get line item level purchase details from most merchants which use something other than the basic hand swipe terminal where you enter the amount to charge manually.
