Ask HN: A CSS framework that functions more like a library
I want to reduce the footprint of my site. I barely use a fraction of what bootstrap or jquery offers. Besides, caching is not of much benefit as my site is more of a reference kind and I get a lot more new users than returning ones. So I am looking for options to put together my own components and use plain javascript.
I actually find removing jquery much easier. CSS not so much. I am not much bothered about old IE support as they comprise less than 0.2% of my readership.
But a huge portion of my readership are mobile and bootstrap components don't scale well on small screens. The user endups doing lots of scrolling.
Is there a sass/less/stylus library with component styling that I can just @include? I currently use Sass, so I would prefer that. For example I use 2 flat buttons on my page. But for the sake of the 2 buttons, I don't the stylesheet to be bloated with CSS for all possible combinations of styles and sizes for buttons that I may never use. But if possible, I would like to have the option to have some basic styles.
One example I found is http://getkickstart.com/ . In kickstart, one can use the css distributed, or just pull in what we need.
.main-nav { @include navbar($background-color: #333); }
Unfortunately it does not seem to be actively maintained. Are there any other options like this?
